THE JAMESON’S:

Field Design

Schilling Horticulture Group Inc.

Spring 2024

The Jameson’s gave us nearly freewill to design their backyard as we pleased, the only non negotiables were that it had to be prolific in seasonal color and there must be an orchard in the backyard. During the site analysis and consultation we discussed the backyard had a steep slope going up the backwall that had issues with erosion control that needed to be addressed. Our solution was to use 2-4” chunky rock and utilize the existing boulders onsite whilst adding additional boulders to stabilize the slope by creating edging. We also planted two Texas Olive trees and Australian Racer ground cover for additional erosion control. We approached the orchard as any good designer might a tale as old as time we asked what fruits they like. Therefore the orchard contains several fruiting trees mixed with citrus and stone fruits alike, consisting of a fig tree as the center piece in the orchard. The meandering path of flag stone acts as a guide through the orchard once fully grown, there is also a small seating area that sits in between the roses. The backyard contains a variety of plant material to attract visual interest and various pollinator groups. The Jameson’s thank us for our hard work and we thank them for allowing cool plants to inhabit their backyard.
